Cowboys-Eagles Open Up Season on Thursday Night Football
February 9th was 207 long days ago. But the wait is over and the NFL is back. The defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles host the rival Dallas Cowboys in defense of their title.
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles (-8.5, 47.5)
This line opened at 7 over the summer and stayed in the 7 to 7.5 range until late last week, when Dallas traded Micah Parsons to the Packers. It is now 8.5, which is a little too much for my blood. Especially in a game vs. divisional rivals.
I don’t necessarily like the Cowboys on the other side, but if forced to pick a side for the game, I would take the 8.5 points here. I think the total is priced about right as the last 3 matchups between these teams have been 48-40-46.
So, I will go to the prop market. There is a lot to like about the Dallas offense, especially the passing game. The Eagles defense is solid across the board, third in the NFL in EPA per play allowed (-0.087) in 2024. But I still expect Dallas to move the ball and as an 8.5 point underdog, they are expected to be trailing in second half, which means more passing.
I will have a couple of Dallas offensive players in my Same Game Parlay (below in newsletter), but for a single pick on this game, I like George Pickens over 56.5 receiving yards. Yes, CeeDee Lamb is the top target and will get his action, but he will also draw the most attention. Pickens has been great in 1:1 situations and hit this number in five of his last seven games with the Steelers last season with Russell Wilson at QB. His per game average last season was 65.8 yards per game, a healthy 9 yards more than the listed number and he now has Dak. We don’t know if Pickens can behave all season, but for game one, we are taking the over yards total.
