Eagles-Giants on Thursday Night Football
NFL Main Side/Total Plays (including primetime games): 9-12-1
- Sides: 4-5-1
- Totals: 5-7
Main Props (including primetime games): 34-13 (8-3 in Wk 6)
Total: 43-25-1
Philadelphia Eagles (-7, 40.5) at New York Giants
Another Giants home primetime game as we just had one vs. the Chiefs two weeks ago. Hopefully this one will be better. I will be attending as I did two weeks ago.
No one will challenge who is the better team here as the Super Bowl champs are better up and down the roster. It’s hard to look at the series history here as they keep playing Week 18, which is a throw away game usually for the Eagles. Philly has won the other weekly matching the last three years, with only one being within one score.
People might be surprised to learn the 4-1 Eagles have struggled statistically or maybe not surprised if they see they’ve won two games via special teams. The Eagles offense is 30th in yards per game, 25th in rushing and 31st in passing. The Giants have actually been better on offense, especially with the turn to Jaxson Dart. But still in the bottom half of the stats, 19th in yards, 20th in rushing and 18th in passing yards per game.
I lean under with the offenses struggling, but also realize the Giants defense has been underperforming as well, ranked 26th or worse in all categories. Is this the week the Eagles offense wakes up and uses A.J. Brown? Is this the week Saquon breaks 100 yards for the first time this season? It’s possible against the Giants defense that allows 5.3 yards per rush.
I lean the champs and the under in a 27-13 type game, but that is too close to the listed total and I don’t have extreme confidence in the Eagles to cover the the TD.
As we love to do in primetime windows, we head to the prop market!
Saquon Barkley o2.5 receptions (-102 at FanDuel)
We love playing the RB receptions prop, especially with snap-heavy RBs against defenses that give up the dump-offs while protecting middle and deep. And that’s what we have Thursday night.
Starting with Barkley, he has at least 2 receptions in all five games and three or more in four of the five. He’s also on the field for 83% of the Eagles snaps, third-highest share in the league among running backs.
The Giants have no problem giving up the dump off pass to the RB, allowing the opponents starting RB to get 3+in four of their five games:
Ekeler - 3 receptions
Javonte Williams - 6
Hampton - 5
Kamara - 4
The lone exception was the SNF vs Chiefs, who split carries with their backs. Pacheco and Hunt combined for 2 catches. The Chiefs are not a throw to RB team, using Kelce or Mahomes running instead.
